Red Bull Boozing Studied

Red Bull is in the news again. This time it is being reported by Forbes that energy drinks and alcohol don’t mix. Oh but they do!
The Register is a bit more clever, stating that the energy drink “masks effects of booze” and that people who mix Red Bull with alcohol will feel less drunk than they really are.
No shit. This firms up what I’ve been saying about Red Bull for years; no study in Brazil was necessary to relate my experiences. Instead of having drunk people stumbling around groggily, you have a bunch of drunk people running around your house crazily. This is fine, so long as you don’t go off and attempt to drink home after three or four Jager Bombs.
As always, Red Bull spokespeople are a bunch of hypocrits. Either that, or they don’t talk to their marketing people; perhaps intentionally. They also state that they don’t recommend mixing the energy drink with alcohol.
“Red Bull is a nonalcoholic energy drink that vitalizes body and mind. It improves performance and reaction time in moments of need,” said Red Bull spokeswoman Patrice Radden. “Alcohol makes you tired, and therefore can impair the positive functional effects of Red Bull. This is why we do not promote Red Bull to be mixed with alcohol.”
Sure. So that’s why marketing people deploy pamplets to bars outlining various cocktails that can be created using Red Bull, such as the one a few buddies of mine saw at The Green Door a few years back. Not that the makers of Red Bull have to market it as a mixer; bars can barely keep the stuff stocked as it is, even when charging up to $5 a can.
I wouldn’t be suprised if the study were somehow paid for by the makers of Red Bull, in an attempt to further publicize their product.
