Daniel Craig Isn’t Half Bad
Nov 26th, 2006 by Alex
I saw Casino Royale last night, despite my initial concerns about Daniel Craig being too snooty for the role. Casino Royale being Fleming’s first Bond novel, it really is the beginning of Bond as well know it… and I must say despite my initial concerns, Craig manages without blinking. Literally. In the Boston Globe’s review of the movie I read that Craig doesn’t appear to blink at all throughout the movie; I can’t argue with the reviewer, I didn’t see him blink. Creepy.
Okay, so Craig does just fine. He’s charismatic and got that British wittiness about him. Granted, he’s no Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan (my personal favorites, in that order), but I think he’s far better than the others (who I won’t even bother to list). The dialogue wasn’t nearly as strained or corny as in the latest batch of movies, but fans expecting gadgets and fine Bond girls will be somewhat disappointed.
Overall, I was impressed.
