Dish Network Ads in Greek
Jan 15th, 2007 by Alex
I recently received a promotional letter from Dish Network written entirely in Greek. Most everything on the envelope itself and the letter is typed out using the Greek alphabet, the exceptions being proper names such as “HBO,” “Showtime,” and “Cinemax.” You can’t tell someone’s first language by looking at their last name, so I’m a bit curious why a large company would send a letter to a US address in any language other than English.
In the past I’ve received the occasional letter from the local Greek Orthodox Church, but usually written in English. Come to think of it I’m not sure how they got my name and address either. I always refrain from answering when asked to fill out a “race” or “ethnicity” field on any sort of document. Yet another database somewhere, I’m afraid.
That is pretty funny. I guess that’s what “trying harder” means for Dish Network..I wonder if this campaign worked for them.
