It is Summer, Officially
May 27th, 2007 by Alex
Friday afternoon I got home from work and did the unthinkable. I turned on the air conditioning. Turning on the AC is something I postpone until absolutely necessary. As cheap as I can be, I just couldn’t help it. It was 83° in my living room and I was expecting people over that evening for an improptu beer tasting event. Normally I’d prefer a temperature of 78° or so. I knew that my guests would add to the temperature and wouldn’t be comfortable, so I flipped the thermostat to “Cool” and dropped it down to 75°. The compressor kicked on and worked without complaint for 3 hours until reaching the target temperature. Many many many cubic feet of ambient air cooled 8° in 3 hours… I thought that was pretty good considering my high ceilings. I love central air.
Saturday morning I got up and went outside around 10 and found it was 85° already and muggy as a swamp. I quickly went back inside to a cool and dry 78°. I felt like my decision was completely justified.
Unless it cools down considerably, chances are the AC will remain on until September. In any case, it is now officially summer.
