Coup de grâce for Jackass

Jackass: The Movie purportedly contained all of the skits, tricks, and stupidity that were too crude or obscene for television. So MTV decides to air the movie during prime time; a seven year old episode of Jackass and a “Where They Are Now” special were shown prior. Consider all that would have to be cut out, this has got to be the coup de grâce for those guys (who I liken to a bunch of professional car wreck artists).
Steve-O reports that this is their last chance to milk the series and movie for the money that they can. Most of the guys are broke — drinking out of red plastic cups throughout the interviews — admitted to having spent their earnings on a lot of stupid stuff. Shocker! Knoxville did have a nice quote about being recognized and fame, quasi-quoted the best I could.
“There are people who complain about the stress of being famous. Those people should shut up. There are people out there that have got real problems. Being famous is not a problem.”
Idiots, yes. But I’ve got respect for these guys. Most of them are above average skaters but otherwise ordinary guys. Yet they beat the clock for their fifteen minutes. For a few years they made a bundle of dough working with their friends, had fun doing it, and held the world’s attention by doing some sickening, dangerous, and amazingly funny things that we couldn’t turn away from watching.
