ProcessLibrary, An Uber-Quick Review
Jul 26th, 2007 by Alex
I find ProcessLibrary to be incredibly useful when diagnosing Windows systems. The site — with a refreshingly clean interface despite it being an advertisement-page-disguised-as-a-tool — will tell you all about processes that you find listed in Task Manager. A quick summary of whether it is good or bad, but with details of what it does, whether it is a background process, uses network, what sub-system it is part of, etc.
For example, for wiptis.exe:
wisptis.exe is a product which is installed alongside Microsoft office or comes packaged with Windows update. This process deals with ‘Windows ink services’ and tends to run alongside Adobe Acrobat Reader. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
I’d avoid the software and free performance scans that they are advertising throughout the results page, but the data on the processes is pretty thorough. Much moreso than attempting to find a decent source on Google for it.
Very handy if you can overlook the hooks for UniBlue’s other products.
