Dimmer Upgrade for SPHS
Aug 31st, 2007 by Alex
We installed an ETC Sensor+ Touring Rack for Severna Park High School last weekend. It was the double wide touring model, half populated with dimmer modules. It was (obviously) less expensive than buying a full rack and it leaves adequate room for future expansion. The dimmer racks that were in use were getting rather antiquated and were starting to experience a variety of problems. The new rack will provide double the capacity and modernized control hardware while taking up half the space.
The Sensor dimmer modules are tiny compared to the old clunkers. They are about the width and height of a 1U rack-mount server, except they’re only six inches deep. They are very easily removed for cleaning or replacement and I’m told that they can be scored used on Ebay on the cheap.

Weighing in at 1,000 pounds each, it took a bit of rigging and a trusty half-ton chain motor to lift the two dimmer racks out of the stage loft. Lifting the new rack into place was easy by comparison. Including the rigging time, we completed three sets of heavy lifts in about an hour without any problems.
Sounds like another job for the A-Team.
I guess this is lighting stuff for their famed Rock and Roll Revival? Are they still doing that show every year?
SPHS is where I went to high school. Not a lot of pleasant memories really.
Thanks for the tip on the Unicum, btw. I will definitely check that out.
A-TEAM GO!
1995 I guess. The RNR was a huge deal 12 years ago. I can hardly imagine what a hoopla it is now.
