Pickup Shutterfly Prints at Target
Sep 9th, 2007 by Alex
I’ve seen Shutterfly prints before, but I had no idea I could pickup my Shutterfly prints at Target.
Shutterfly charges $0.19 per 4×6. That’s pretty cheap considering the quality of the product, but their standard shipping and handling takes 7-10 business days. I couldn’t wait that long. Target charges $0.25 per 4×6 at their kiosk. Still pretty cheap, slightly less quality product than Shutterfly but perfectly fine for collage work.
At some point the two companies teamed up. So why wait in line to use the kiosk when I can upload from home, make sure that they’re received properly, and then just run out and pick them up in an hour? All for $0.20 per 4×6 print. So I uploaded to Shutterfly and said I wanted to pick them up at the Target by my house. The only hitch is that they want a printout of my order confirmation email when I show up. I don’t have a printer. I know that the prints they do are better than most photo printers, but that’s one reason why I’m getting prints made in the first place and not doing it myself.
It turns out that the order number and ID will be sufficient, unless you’re the first one in line at nine in the morning in which case no ID or number is needed at all, merely a “yes, that’s my order” nod to the cashier who’s talking on the phone throughout the entire transaction (including stuffing the printers into an envelope, swiping the still-warped credit card, and waiting for you to flip through the prints).
I heart Target.
I’ve also had good luck with prints at Walgreens. I own a 4×6 photo printer, but I let Walgreens handle the 5×7 photos. Good results in about the same amount of time.
I also wanted to share that WinkFlash (http://www.winkflash.com) is another very good source for 4×6 photos. Although you cannot pick them up at target, their 4×6 photos are 12 cents each and the best part is their shipping is a flat 99 cents on 4×6 prints.
Paul: There are a few Walgreens around, but none within a reasonable driving distance.
DJ: On their 99 cent shipping, what is the lead time?
If I remember correctly it came in under a week. According to their FAQ 3-5 days and orders ship within 24-48 hours. I usually use WinkFlash when there is not immediate urgency.
