I’d like to see store policies that make sense. So many of them don’t. For example, I take issue with the return/exchange policy at Party City.
We will gladly accept returns and exchanges within 30 days of purchase with original receipt. Packages must be unopened. Returns on seasonal items such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween Costumes [...]

Went down to a beach on the Magothy River to do some slacklining on Saturday afternoon. I setup a 30 foot line between two trees with a blanket below the center point but lacked the coordination to stay up for any period of time. I set up another line between two trees about 15 feet [...]

Proper kudos to the public library, I just finished reading Spook Country. While the book flap reviewer from the San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle praises William Gibson’s ability to “craft sentences of uncanny beauty”, it makes for a convoluted mess of a read. I’m a fairly educated man who loves to read, but I [...]

I wasn’t able to find anything good on the radio while driving home in the rain tonight. Somehow I got thinking about quirky songs and a few lines popped into my head. Lines from songs that I don’t have ripped to MP3 at home, unfortunately. Songs that I might occasionally get to hear on the [...]

A group of students from Severna Park High School are convening on Facebook (in an AACC group, oddly enough) with the purpose of “[making] some crucial changes in the directing staff” of this year’s Rock N’ Roll Revival XVIIII. Led by the kid who played the hydraullicly-enabled Billie Jean last year, the group claims that [...]

Amazon.com WidgetsFor the most part, trips to the bathroom are uneventful. That is, people go in and take care of their personal business and leave, hopefully washing their hands on the way out. Today was a bang up day for restroom weirdness at the office. I observed two uncommon behaviors while taking care [...]

The Dog Pub — formerly the Thirsty Dog — just opened a second location in Columbia in September. Just around the traffic circle from Nottingham’s, The Dog Pub is open from 11am-2am daily. If a trip to Federal Hill isn’t in the cards or if you’re in one of the surrounding business parks and need [...]

Amazon.com WidgetsI just finished reading Freakonomics, subtitled A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything. Very neat, clean, and approachable, this is not your typical economics book. But then again, Steven Levitt doesn’t appear to be a typical economist. The man attempts to answer simple questions using economic datasets. Such as (quoted [...]

I attended a business meeting at Dave and Buster’s yesterday. They have decent buffet food and private facilities large enough to do it, but there was one complaint that I heard repeatedly. The soda was flat. I heard this from several people after several trips to the drink station, where you’d think they’d be refilling [...]

If you’ve never been to Seacrets in Ocean City, know the following. It is big. Three bars in the concert hall alone. Two outside. At least one more by the small stage. That doesn’t count the restaurant. Instead of wood, concrete, vinyl or stone floor in the concert hall, they’ve got diamond plate. They’ve got [...]

If you call a hotel to reserve a block of rooms and advertise that your guests are going to be loud and obnoxious, don’t feign surprise or become angry when hotel management comes directly to the room where the party is at. When you book a room as part of such a block, hotel management [...]

I typically make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch. I put peanut butter on one side and strawberry jelly on the other, throw it in a sandwich bag and head to work. I don’t like my sandwich to be refrigerated, so it usually sits on my desk until lunchtime.
Here’s the part that I don’t [...]

It astounds me how many young people don’t have a clue when it comes to money and taxes. Fewer still know how both relate to being a homeowner. It feels like some people go out of their way to know as little about finance as humanly possible. I don’t know if its a generational thing [...]

Over the weekend I experienced slacklining for the first time. It isn’t particularly new among the climbing community, but I just found out about it recently. While a friend and I were unloading a few tons of pea gravel into a hole I was trying to explain it to him. It turns out he had [...]

I’ve been listening to Fair, a particularly beautiful and uplifting song by Remy Zero that found its way onto the Garden State soundtrack. I remember hearing Shattered just before the credits rolled on Suicide Kings and thinking the same thing. They made some amazing music together. In a way it’s a shame that the members [...]
