Resident Evil: Extinction, After a Pint of Twisted Kilt
Oct 1st, 2007 by Alex
Continuing the bi-weekly tradition, I saw Resident Evil: Extinction on Friday night at Muvico with friends. The third installment is a bit edgier than the first two with more zombies and gore but less gun play, but with boilerplate suspenseful thrills and shocks that feel… off. Milla Jovovich is still as amazingly acrobatic and attractive as ever, as is to be expected. Whoever writes these things insists on killing off a major character or two during each movie and this one is no exception. It does feel like they’re pushing the series and having to work to make it work. You might find some closure, but not much. There’s plenty of room for another installment. It was entertaining, but overall I was a tad disappointed.
As is becoming the norm, we met up at DuClaw beforehand for a round of beer. Over the last month or so I’ve seen the posters for Twisted Kilt, their seasonal scotch ale. Seeing as how wee heavies are one of my favorite styles of beer and it was finally available I felt obligated to order a pint. Very smooth and full-bodied, but neither I or my comrades could place the finish. Looking at the web site, I’m thinking it was the caramel undertones. Very enjoyable. My only regret is that it isn’t available year round.
