The Futility of Hotel After-Parties
Oct 14th, 2007 by Alex
If you call a hotel to reserve a block of rooms and advertise that your guests are going to be loud and obnoxious, don’t feign surprise or become angry when hotel management comes directly to the room where the party is at. When you book a room as part of such a block, hotel management knows where those rowdy people will be. That should be self-explanatory. Instead, you should feel relieved that they didn’t come to the room with the local sheriff to eject you from the hotel.
To get angry that the hotel management was forewarned and that they shouldn’t come by and ask you to keep it down is downright naive. It’s pretty simple stuff here. What is the hotel going to do? Ignore any complaints they might receive from other customers (who likely paid more for a quiet room and comfortable bed than the party goers’ block rate)? Warn possible customers that there’s going to be a large and raucous group and that they should book a room elsewhere? Stop accepting reservations otherwise?
Unless you book the entire hotel for your party, all hotel parties get shut down. It’s always just a matter of time before the open deadbolt (that keeps the door unlocked for everyone) slamming into the steel door frame wakes the people on the floor above and below.
This isn’t rocket science, but some people just don’t get it.
