Holy Frijoles, Batman!
Nov 3rd, 2007 by Alex
Spent the better part of last night at Holy Frijoles up in Hampden at the Octovember Baltimore Blogger Happy Hour. It was nice to meet people whom I’ve been reading for over a year. There were a few people that I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself to. That’s my only regret, which isn’t too bad considering how many people turned out.
I did however, receive a completely incomprehensible voice mail from a coworker last night.
I liked the bar. I wish it were closer to home. I didn’t think to order anything besides drinks, but I’m told the food is amazing and I’m curious if it would hold its own with the fare from El Salto. I plan to venture back to find out. Nix the promotional American Honey (a weak but powerfully sweet bourbon-based liquor), but definitely have a margarita or two. Rocks only, just the way they should be. The bartenders were very responsive.
Afterwards, went to play Twister in Glen Burnie. Don’t knock it till you try it. It was so serious that the socks came off. There was ample evidence taken in flip-book format, but I’m unsure if it’ll ever see the light of day. After a night out, the hash brown onion green pepper egg (with a hint of fallen salsa; that is, salsa that has fallen out of the refridgerator and not salsa that’s just lagging behind) concoction that ACW cooked up was absolutely incredible. I think that’s what was in it. Wish I had taken a picture. Miraculous is what it was. I do wonder how I’d feel this morning if I had taken the proffered supplements recommended by Mrs. ACW.
While getting a tad lost, I took the opportunity to take the scenic drive home. Hampden is different in the morning. It was crisp out and it looks like the streets were waking up themselves. I’m told it was originally a mill town and I think it shows. It’s old-school, there’s a home-like feel to the buildings and homes.
Someone mentioned an email flood leading up to the event and then someone else apologized for the same thing. I didn’t think that I had gotten that many. I hadn’t checked after work, apparently.

It’s very rare that actual email outnumbers spam.

That’s definitely more than a few messages, moreso than normal anyways.
The things I miss by not being at my desk for an hour: the Domino Sugar Factory done gone blown up, that I didn’t exactly donate to the cupcakes or pie like I should have had I known. Or the Twister board rental for that matter.
Up and about and in need of a nap, I have the distinct feeling that I’m supposed to be somewhere today.
It was fun man, can’t wait to do it again.
Great meeting you on Friday!
Here’s the DSG recipe I was trying to remember…
1 oz Baileys
1/2 oz Creme de Menthe
1 oz Kaluha
1/2 oz vodka
Cheers!
Jon: Absolutely.
Linds: My first DGS experience was pretty good, but that mix does look a bit more appealing. Bottom’s up.
