Unexpected Naps Are the Most Refreshing

Sometimes your body knows what you need better than you do. If you’re sleep deprived, you’ll fall asleep in the strangest of places despite all physical (standing up) or aural surroundings (during a rock concert).
After only getting a handful of hours sleep early Sunday morning, I crashed pretty hard late Sunday afternoon after picking up ground pork from Shopper’s. There was some movie playing on FX that I was half-watching. When I woke up two hours later curled up on my living room floor it was dark and there was a completely different movie playing. I had said that I’d need a nap sometime Sunday, but I don’t remember being tired at all. Quite a good nap to say the least, even if it was unexpected and someone disorienting.
The experience reminded me of one of my favorite stand-up comedians. In one of my favorite bits of his, George Carlin observes that it’s the little things that bring us together. Experiences that we all share. Like when you wake up from a late afternoon nap and its dark outside and you instinctively wonder what day it is. That was today for me. If you’ve never heard the bit, it’s one of his more clean bits. Very funny and true all around.
As I’ve said before, it’s the little things that amuse me. Observational humor about our quirks is no exception.
Remarkably, I fell asleep once at The 8×10. Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe was playing and it was LOUD, but apparently I was very sleepy.
