Taking a Half-Day for Veteran’s Day
Nov 12th, 2007 by Alex
It irritates me that I don’t have Veteran’s Day off. Technically it was yesterday, but it is being observed by the federal government today. In my mind today is a day to honor and respect those soldiers who have gone before us. Considering that my company provides solutions and support to a great number of military and government organizations alike, you’d think that we would observe this holiday. I’ve yet to hear a decent explanation of why we don’t.
There were some product demos and HR presentations scheduled today at the office, which I turned down in favor of doing some CBT at home that I’ve been meaning to do for some time. I was under the impression that it would be fairly intensive and technical and take the entire day. I was wrong. It wasn’t too intensive or technical. It was in fact rather basic, not technical, and quite possibly a waste of my time. I finished in a few hours.
Crap.
Not only have I missed the demos (at least one of which I was interested in seeing) and presentations, now I’m stuck taking a half-day worth of leave. Either that or make the time up over the remaining four days in the pay period.
Seeing as how this has turned into a 3.5 day weekend, I may as well try to finish some stuff around the house. I need to replace the air filters now that the heat is on. I need to do the dishes again. The good news is that the Hawaiian chili is cooking up right now and should be done in about an hour; photos and recipes to follow shortly.
