Hawaiian Chili in the Crock Pot
Nov 13th, 2007 by Alex
I made Hawaiian Chili today in the crock pot yesterday. Very very tasty. It was composed of ground pork, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato juice, crushed pineapple, green bell peppers, onion, chili powder, parsley, sugar, and black pepper. The only downside is that my crock pot is a tad small; there was some overflow on the counter from the high heat simmer.
I’m a big fan of crock pot cooking. It’s simple. The dish cooks up while I’m not home and the whole house smells amazing when I return to a ready-made meal. The recipe is included in Joanna Lund’s Deluxe Potful of Recipes (page 87), which is essentially a compilation of her A Potful of Recipes and Another Potful of Recipes (page 117) cookbooks. The author tends to get a bit preachy about the Healthy Exchanges way of life, but her recipes are simple to prepare and taste pretty good. If you’ve made a purchase on Amazon, you might be able to view the full text. It would take too long to type the whole thing.
It was my first time using Reynolds SlowCooker Liners. The overflow definitely would have leaked beneath the crock had I not used the liner. It definitely saved me from having to scrub the inside of the crock pot and the heating element cover, and possibly tripping the GFCI in the kitchen. It made clean up a snap, too.
