It’s Going to Be an Aural Weekend
Dec 11th, 2007 by Alex
Saturday, anyways.
On Saturday afternoon I’m going to a subwoofer shootout at the IDS-Shoreline shop. It should be an interesting (if not thunderingly loud) display of various sub cabinet designs and pairings with various amps. Think home theatre or car audio, but large enough in size and quantity to fill a stadium rock concert. Turn the Bass knob up to 11, please. My usual title of “microphone tester #2″ won’t be necessary this time around, so I have no official role besides taking a few pictures.
On Saturday evening I’ll be mixing a party in Bowie. It isn’t so much a job as a party that I volunteered some gear for, on the assumption that I’d be properly fed. I am so easily motivated sometimes. Expected turnout is a few dozen people, so it isn’t going to be anything huge. The current plan is a pair of JBL EON15 G2s on tripod stands, a laptop, a Mackie 1402-VLZ, and maybe an SM-58 or two (because microphones are fun). The G2’s weren’t my first choice, but you can’t beat their portability and in all likelihood 800W of bi-amped sound will be more than enough. The guest list is pretty varied, so the most time-consuming part is going to be working out the playlist.
If I feed you will you come and help us demo the upstairs at our demolition party on the fifth?
Thank you Jamaila, I knew I had something on my calendar for January, and I couldn’t remember what it was! Alex, she does feed people well who come and help with the house.
