These Lights are Really Blue

A few of us did a holiday potluck today at the office. I brought two crock pots, one with mulled cider and the other filled with half-ounce meatballs and marinara sauce (for subs). Other dishes present included Carnegie salad, cheesy corn, broccoli and rice casserole, a chocolate yule log, green bean casserole, buffalo chicken dip, mashed potatoes and gravy, and chicken and biscuits from Popeye’s. For a dozen people that’s a lot of food. Everyone — myself included — felt it shortly thereafter and I’d be surprised if anyone didn’t have to fight back a sleepy eyelid or two. I ended up packing up a few pounds of meatballs, sauce, and a lot of rolls. Aside from having leftovers galore, I think it’s amazing how good my coworkers are at cooking.
I was considering going to Unsilent Night tomorrow night. Not because I’m particularly fond of p-funks or ironic shirts, but because it seems like a neat idea. The coordination involved reminds of the Big Shot efforts at RIT; think large scale outdoor photography at night. Really cool stuff whether you’re into photography or not. But now I’m not sure. I’m on the fence.
It’s the small things that bring a smile to my face these days. Getting a good night’s rest after a nice evening out with a mix of old and new friends. Rocking out to five year old MP3s dug up from the depths of an old server. Realizing that tomorrow is pay day, but that the money has already been deposited and ready for withdrawal.
The holidays are shaping up. On the books is a decent mix of friends and family, no travel required.
No travel sounds like a great idea. I’m having my brother-in-law and his fiance over and that is it for the whole four day weekend. Pure bliss.
