Home for the Holidays
Dec 27th, 2007 by Alex
I had a nice time at home with the family. Went for a bike ride before presents and dinner. It was my first bike ride in years, which made me consider — as I have been lately — getting a bike and getting some exercise thataway. It’s low-impact and I always enjoyed riding as a kid. Loot from the holidays included toys for the kitchen (the equivalent of 394 cloves of garlic) and mind (books, movies, chocolate) and a few other things. I wasn’t expecting or desiring anything extravagant. All in all, a nice year.
I don’t like to waste food, but the turkey I got from the deli last week fell victim to the holidays. I went to make a sandwich this morning for lunch and found that it had spoiled. It’s going to be a Ramen noodle lunch today.
A tasty culinary creation introduced to me last night combines two of my favorite food groups… fried pickles. As much as I like pickles, I just can’t believe I’ve never seen them on a menu or had ‘em before. They were good.
Helped a friend install a new tub in his (now-)gutted bathroom. He took the entire room down to the studs, the ceiling is coming down today. He’s on a strict schedule since his roommates are returning at the end of the week and probably will want to use their bathroom. The tile and hardware he’s got picked out is going to look amazing. Seeing how easy it was to squeeze a tub into the door and into a very tight space made me wonder how hard it would be to re-do my bathroom. I’d like to get rid of the lino and replace with stone or granite, put a new surround in for easier cleaning and tile further up the wall to prevent splash back. Not sure how I’d shower during the renovation, but certainly something to consider.
I saw Greenwheel in college. Breathe just came up on my playlist this morning. It’s one of those songs that I feel I could listen to over and over again.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard the Greenwheel version of Breathe, but I love Melissa Etheridge’s recording. Thanks for the reminder.
