Life Will Continue in 18 Days

As of early last week, all tickets for Rock ‘N Roll Revival XIX — which opens this Friday night — were sold out. That’s six shows seating around 1,000 people at $12/ticket, grossing over $70,000. That doesn’t include merchandise, concessions, flowers, or another of the other things that people will buy. Not too shabby for a production based out of a high school.
I made a suggestion to the producer last week that we ought to add another show. Make it some random weeknight, such as Tuesday. It could be truthfully billed as “by popular request” and the kids would benefit from it; without it there would be a three day gap between the Sunday matinĂ©e and the Thursday night show following, which in the past has made for a pretty rough show on Thursday. Since there wouldn’t be any physical ticket stubs or programs, charge a tad less (say $8-10). Whatever proceeds would be gravy.
Then I had another idea. Have the proceeds go to charity. Which charity exactly I’m not sure, but that would give the kids an ever better reason to make it a good one. The ticket purchaser could pick from a list of a few charities if one can’t be decided upon. If the extra show were to sell out, it’d be the equivalent of each cast member donating $100. Besides the value in putting on a good shows, there’s some intrinsic value there too.
So my idea was brought up. The consensus among the directors and producers was positive, and now I believe we’re waiting to see if the kid’s parents are in favor or not it’s happening. From the SPHS Drama Boosters site, the show will be general admission only, $10 per ticket at the door.
No word on where the proceeds are going, but I’m super stoked.
