NIN Releases Ghosts I-IV
Mar 7th, 2008 by Alex
I downloaded Ghosts I this evening and gave it a listen. I also listened to some of the tracks on the site itself (click “Listen”). Completely instrumental, I like the assortment. It doesn’t have the polish of Reznor’s typical studio album that you can only assume was the product of months in the studio mixing and editing, nor does it feel entirely industrial. Instead it feels fresh and clean, this time created entirely in ten weeks.
If you don’t follow the recent Slashdot hype, Ghosts I-IV is the latest installment from Nine Inch Nails. The first 9 tracks are available for download in DRM-free MP3 format as is the PDF of the complete album art. $5 buys you the entire album for download in a variety of MP3/FLAC/iPod-compatible formats. $10 buys you a tangible double CD containing all 36 tracks (and a key to download the entire thing). I’m considering purchasing the album, since the stuff sounds a lot better off the computer and I like having the album art in my hands away from the monitor. Plus I like the try-before-you-buy approach that’s being tried here.
If you’ve strayed from Nine Inch Nails in the past, you might want to consider giving it a listen. I have a feeling that the more I listen to it the more I’m going to enjoy it subtler parts.
