A Weekend Away
Mar 10th, 2008 by Alex
Sometimes you need a weekend away from the world. Away from work. Away from side work. Away from your normal locale. This weekend we headed up to Ocean City to relax. After a good bit of rain and some light hydroplaning on the Garden State Parkway, we arrived unscathed. There’s something about chips, salsa and hummus that’s oddly comforting after a long drive.
The unofficial haircut club made an appearance in the garage on Saturday morning. I’m the happy recipient of one of two fresh haircuts. A few hairs to snip by hand but much better than paying for a buzz.
On Saturday we drove up to Atlantic City for a few hours. On the recommendation of one of our crew — who had recently been to AC on travel — we hit up Trump Taj Mahal where we cleaned up at the craps table, most of us leaving with considerably fatter wallets than we came in with. I was no exception, recouping my initial money quickly with a few conservative bets. My luck held out for a few rollers and the dice never came halfway around the table. I placed some slightly greedy odds near the end and lost them when the roller finally crapped out, then packed it in. I left the table with over four times my initial chips (plus my initial chips) in less than an hour. I later found out that the next roller was even more lucky, but I was already pleased with the day’s profits more the covering all costs of the trip.
The rain finally stopped sometime on Saturday evening and we all took a nice stroll on the beach Sunday morning. A lot colder than Friday or Saturday, it was windy and the surfers were out in their wet suits. With a 10° wind chill I think they were all looney.
Another week begins.
Congrats on your winnings. I’m too chicken and cheap to gamble.
