Sidetracked by Wireless APs and Movies

I knew that a lot of my neighbors have recently subscribed to Verizon FiOS for their data and television needs, but today I realized that it’s more prevalent than I had originally thought. The evidence is clear by the number of ONTs mounted on the back of the houses, frequent sightings of hay left by the installers after burying the fiber, but also in the number of wireless access points accessible from my house. When I moved in here there were about a dozen APs present, but now a four minute walk around the house yields over 40. Of those 40, about 30 are likely out of the box from Verizon. You can tell by the SSID that’s chosen. There are a few saavy neighbors who have customized the SSIDs of their Verizon-provided devices, leaving only a few people using Comcast. And that doesn’t count those that aren’t broadcasting their SSID.
That’s a lot of RF being thrown about.
Channel surfing this morning I caught the beginning of TBS airing Prince & Me II: The Royal Wedding. IMDB is my favorite movie accessory and so I checked it out. I had no idea that there was a sequel and for good reason, aside from the prince character none of the cast was the same. Chick flick aside, I don’t know how you can expect to make a successful sequel if the two main characters aren’t involved. One of them just doesn’t cut it.
Though I wasn’t thinking about sequels, within a few minutes I was on USA watching Giancarlo Giannini — who is seriously under-appreciated — and other greats in Hannibal. Nothing like watching a “viewer discretion advised” movie at 10 in the morning and eating good leftovers. Much better than attempting to do my taxes.
But it will be today…
