A Rant About a Pair of Trucks
May 14th, 2008 by Alex
Out at Home Depot the other night I saw this dualie double parked diagonally across two spaces about 20 feet from the door. This sort of thing pisses me off and inspires me to dream about calling a flatbed tow truck (which is what you’d need to tow the beast away). If your vehicle doesn’t fit in the space due to the length and/or width, have the consideration to park it in the back of the lot so you aren’t screwing up the traffic flow. It isn’t even a truck thing, really. I’ve seen lots of people who thought their car was too expensive and precious to park next to everyone else, but at least they were parked out in the sticks.
Last week I was driving down Pratt Street and saw a jacked up truck. Not monster truck jacked up, but definitely with a lift kit of some sort. Windows tinted black and some horrendously tinny-sounding music blasting out the open windows. Now I’ve had some big stereo systems in my car before and I know how loud it’s got to be inside for it to that loud outside, so I knew the guy couldn’t hear a damned thing. Then I saw it, the tweeters were mounted to the A-frame in such a way that they were pointing out the window, directing all of the high end out of the cab. Speechless.
I like trucks. I don’t own one for a variety of reasons, but I see the utility. Thankfully not all truck owners are like this.
You’ve hit on one of my primo sources of aggravation…actually, several of them: (1) people who park carelessly (or deliberately) so as to occupy more than one parking space; (2) people who believe they have a duty to share their music with you at top volume; (3) people who drive enormous, jacked-up trucks for no reason…they’re not hauling construction materials or other big things, they just use a big truck to compensate for having a little willy. There’s nothing like a truck when you need one, but in these days of insane gas prices and crowded roads, it’s foolish to own a honkin’ big truck if you don’t have to.
Bilbo: While the parking and music are obnoxious, the truck was probably his only vehicle.
Alex: I think to be fair the title of the post title should have ” Drivers” appended to the end of it, since I think we agree the frustration was with the improper use/driving of such a large truck.
