Jordan: The Hess station up on Henrietta Avenue was always the worst for gas, but usually the only place nearby when I arrived on fumes. To this day I have no idea how I made the 425 mile trip on one tanked, car loaded to the hilt with all my belongings.

jwer: I usually fill up in Pasadena when I'm over there for other things, either at BJ's or the Exxon nearby. They're always cheaper than the stations near me; I assume it was because of competition and volume, being right on Route 2.

Danielle: That's what I didn't understand, the station being smack in the middle of a major thoroughfare with plenty of business. Upscale, not exactly. Nifty map though, sure enough the places where I usually fill up at in Green in the low-mid $3.90's.

nifty map of gas prices - it supports my hunches. Gas is more expensive, now, on average on the Eastern Shore than most of Baltimore City and inner 'burbs. It used to drop more across the bridge. Now you have to keep heading to DE or Easton, Cambridge, or Salisbury.

Gas can be more expensive in the city especially in a more upscale part of town. There's also the convenience factor, more expensive gas right around highway exits. Gas also becomes expensive as you head into more rural areas where gas stations are further apart and as such, there's increasing demand and decreasing competition between stations. In my experience, low-moderate income neighborhoods and inner ring suburbs have the lower prices.

My experience is that gas gets more expensive the FARTHER you get from the city, at least if you're driving into suburbia. I always fill up before I go to Columbia, because filling up somewhere in there is usually 30-50 cents more per gallon.

If you cross the Bay Bridge, however, it drops $0.30 almost immediately.

3.89, 4.05 :( I don't like NYS sometimes. I filled up the other day for 4.21, and that was some of the cheapest in the city. damn.
