Acoustic Doesn’t Mean Quiet

When I think acoustic, I think quiet sets. Maybe acoustic guitar without amplification, like you’d see in a coffee house or in someone’s home. Really it just means no drummer. The theory is that bands have to be mixed much louder to be heard over the drums natural volume. Such was the case at Cheeseburger in Paradise this past Friday night.
The lads of Fools & Horses played three or four sets until closing; bass, acoustic guitars, and vocals only. Aside from a vocal solo, Tim Hutchison — the drummer (pictured above) — had the night off from performing.
It was still a band at a bar. Sufficiently loud, though not nearly as loud with full electric accouterments. It’s been a while since they’ve played there and the crowd dwindled pretty fast after midnight. The guys played a nice mix of their own songs, popular bits and requests from the patrons. Perhaps next time the word will get out and more people will stick around.
