Aloha Sushi
Feb 18th, 2009 by Alex
A few friends from upstate New York were down visiting for the weekend. We met up in Mount Vernon and went out for sushi. I’m not a huge sushi fan, but I don’t mind going out with people who are. There’s usually good tempura to be had. When I think of “aloha” I think of Hawaii, not sushi. When you see the neon-clad exterior of Aloha Sushi in Mount Vernon you might have your doubts.
Surprise.
I can’t speak for the lounge downstairs, but the upstairs dining room is tasteful and elegant. It’s quiet and perfect for small groups. I don’t do seafood, so I opted for the Broiled Chicken Terriyaki. I found the soft and tender cuts of chicken delicious, mixed with sliced onions and a rich sauce.
I took home half of my sticky rice and vegetables, but downed an excellent set of spring rolls and miso soup before I could photograph them.
Even though I don’t do sushi, I must admit that the hand made rolls were all beautifully arranged.
Lots of good comments from those with us that night. I definitely wouldn’t mind heading back.

That is good looking sushi.
