Not In It for Fame

Consider, Jeff Atwood’s Eight Levels of Programmers. Though admittedly tongue in cheek, there’s insight here. If you’re a programmer, developer, or sysadmin — and don’t read Jeff’s blog (and why not?) — or know anyone who is, you might find it interesting.
Okay, self-assessment time.
I love this stuff, but I’ve never considered myself an great programmer. Coding wise, I immerse myself in whatever language I need. It works for me, though it still creeps me out that I’m considered a “developer” now. I feel like I bring breadth of experience to the table, rather than deep knowledge or skill in any language. I’d consider myself a solid Level 4, with some tendencies towards Level 5.
I’m more than okay with that. I don’t particularly want to be known. I’m not in it for fame.
