Observation #3 - Blue Shirts
Jun 9th, 2009 by Alex
Blue shirts with white collar and cuffs. Who decided that this was a good idea? I’m not the don of fashion, nor am I a member of the shirt police. In fact, my sense of style is somewhat bland and muted. I do find it difficult to take someone seriously after they don the same shirt worn by Gary Cole (while playing Bill Lumbergh in Office Space).
The first thing that pops into my head when I see somebody in one of those awful shirts is, “douchebag to the extreme.”
While I won’t argue the douchebag factor, it should be noted that the style is one that dates back to the 1980s but even before then in Europe. In some circles, these are seen as French cuffs and collars (of course, that would mean the cuff folds back in on itself.
The look is meant to be a contrast, framing the shirt, even if it reminds you of Lumbergh. To complete the look, though, they need suspenders/braces.
JJT: To me, they accentuate the neck and hands… not something I’d wish for business.
