Cabela’s is Huge

On the way up to a wedding at Perona Farms, we stopped at Cabela’s. Now I’m not much of an outdoorsman, nor am I an aficionado of sporting goods, and retail locations aren’t my thing, but…
Wow.
Forget Bass Pro. Forget Dick’s. Forget Sports Authority. Cabela’s is the Disney World of outdoor sporting goods stores. Not only is there not much that you can’t find here (most of which at reasonable prices), there were easily several thousand people mulling around when we arrived. The parking lot has signs on the light posts to indicate what section you’re parked in. The only thing they’re missing is the tram and the costumed characters, although I’m sure they make an appearance for special occasions or sales. Granted, the Hamburg location is their largest (over 250,000 square feet, excluding parking) but it was still one the largest single-store retail facilities I’ve ever seen. It would probably take an hour to walk the whole thing if there were no one else there.
A lot of the space as you first enter the store is dedicated to hunting apparel, which makes you feel like you’re on safari when you get separated from those with you. You end up cutting through all of that camouflage, doubling back, swearing that you just saw them, and just for a second it feels like you are hunting.
I didn’t buy much, but those few amusing seconds were priceless.
