Automated Phone Spam on My Cell
Nov 21st, 2009 by Alex
I just received a call on my cell from 269-768-2213. An automated call, wherein the recorded voice — belonging to someone named Rachel, supposedly — informed me that there are no problems with my credit card but that I’m eligible for a lower rate of 6 point something percent. My eligibility will expire soon, so I should press 1 to speak with an operator.
An automated call, suspect of fraud. Strike 1.
No reference to the type or issuer of card. Strike 2.
I don’t carry a balance. I couldn’t care less about the APR. Strike 3.
Click.
Lots of reports for this particular caller ID.

Want a Google Voice invite? I publish that number instead of my cell phone because it’s easier for me to block spammers.
Mike: Thanks, but I already use Google Voice and public it. But if the caller does the whole area code, they’re bound to get my direct line eventually.
