Taking the Long Way Home
Nov 29th, 2009 by Alex
After a night of zombie movies up in Wilmington, I crashed in the guest bedroom. There’s something about sleeping in your own bed that’s comforting. But there’s something to be said for leaving all your cares, troubles and responsibilities at home, too. I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a week, maybe two.
On my way back this morning, I decided to take the long way home. Forgoing I-95, I took DE-896S to US-301. It’s been a while since I’ve gone that way, probably since my post-collegiate trips to Newark. It’s longer by at least 30 minutes, but it’s the road less traveled. A few cars here and there, but plenty of space in between. I found it a lot less stressful than duking it out with the other toll-paying drivers who are just trying to get from point A to point B as fast as mechanically possible.
I saw a bunch of Mallards hanging out on the sandbar just off the Eastern Shore. The morning haze was about half burned off, making way for a wonderfully clear (and fairly warm) morning as I crossed over the Bay Bridge.
As far as car trips go, it was downright pleasant.
