And Then There Was Snow
Dec 5th, 2009 by Alex
I have this idea that to be a true White Christmas, it needs to be clear the night before and then on December 25th you wake up to snow on the ground. In a perfect world, it would be the first snowfall of the season. Whether the snow is still falling is completely optional. It’s a Norman Rockwell kind of scenario, even if it’s just in my head and no one else thinks the same. Rare, in any case. I don’t even remember if I’ve experienced such a holiday.
Waking up a few times, I heard the rain throughout the night. I knew it was cold enough for snow, but too warm for hail. It was clear when I got up, the rain having stopped just prior. Sometime during the morning I walked into the kitchen, glance out the window, and saw that it was snowing. And not the little pansy Maryland flakes, either. Large flakes, coming down solidly.
The five year old rejoiced.
I’m still mystified how something as simple as crystallized water can be so beautiful.
It was an awesome experience to wake up to this morning
However, as an avid snowboarder (when life permits) I always want the first snowfall to come before Thanksgiving to give me that longer season.

Steven: Even if the season starts later, we keep having snow later and later in the year. Snowboarding in March? The past couple years, anyways.
