Inception on Opening Night
Jul 16th, 2010 by Alex
I predict that Inception will do rather well this weekend.
For once, the previews didn’t give away the best parts. Nor will I.
Christopher Nolan has done it again, combining perception and dreams and reality and demons in a twisted multi-layered plot. There are aspects of it reminiscent of The Matrix combined with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind mixed in with Vanilla Sky (or Abre los ojos) and just a bit of Fight Club. There’s a bit of action too, which is conceivable given the storyline.
The story. From the previews, you know it’s about dreams. Sharing dreams of others. I won’t spoil anything, but the nature of the environment in which the movie takes place allows for all manner of camera angles, rich landscapes, and special effects. All taken to the bleeding edge, but still believable.
The cast is superb, working well together like the gang in the Ocean’s series. You’ll notice a few of Nolan’s recurring favorites from previous projects, but there’s a lot of known talent that all get to play it up as part of the large ensemble.
This movie is something else. It provides sufficient science fiction to inspire geeks like me to wonder. You’ll be talking about it with friends after you leave the theater, trying to reply parts in your head to make sense of it.
Not to plant a seed of an idea, but this one is worth seeing in the theater.
