I don’t know how old this hard disk is, but I’d guess 25-30 years. No telling its capacity, but it’s physical dimensions are huge; it has carrying handles. You can also see the pen and the mouse on the lab bench, for scale.
The chassis appears to be forged out of steel.
If you know how small [...]

Despite my penchant for helping out the little guy, I feel like most of my shopping is done online these days. Today however, was an exception. I found myself quite the consumer all afternoon and into the evening.
Chili
Area Rug
Gasoline
Phone
Cereal
Aluminum Foil
Bread
Steam Trays
Ginger Ale
Jeans
Garage Door Opener
Gyro
My poor credit card, it’s only reprieve was the chili and the [...]

There’s something undeniably cool about a MacGuffin in a case, like in Ronin or Pulp Fiction. It’s not just about the plot device itself, though. My fascination extends to case-mounted hardware too, including all manner of tactical weapons — HK’s MP5-in-a-suitcase being a choice and rarely found example — and communications gear. Needless to say [...]

My new phone battery arrived from Amazon the other day, intact from DLN Enterprises. It wasn’t in OEM packaging, but it was indeed an authentic Motorola battery. According to the coding on the battery, it was manufactured a year after my old one.
Old: 20060802 2BQ1603
New: 20070801 KAK3791
There were a few scratches on the contacts, but [...]

I’m a glutton for punishment or lazy, because I lived for months with sub-par talk time that could usually be counted on my fingers. After six months of bitching about my cell phone’s battery life, I decided today to buy a new battery. My Motorola V325 takes one 3.7V Lithium Ion cell, model number SNN5762A.
For [...]

I’ve been under the weather the past few days and have come to the following conclusion: electric blankets don’t get enough credit. Schultz wrote that “happiness is a warm blanket” and I don’t think he could be more correct. Often forgotten or dismissed as safety hazards, electric blankets are making a comeback and I think [...]

There’s something uniquely manly about socket wrenches. I remember flipping through the Sears catalog as a child, seeing the kits containing thousands of pieces and thinking “wow, that’s a lot of shiny stuff.” Manly stuff mind you, but still shiny and attractive.
My socket set started out in a green metal case. There was a plastic [...]

Is the screen on your iPod Nano too small to watch movies?
So that’s what popped up on the YouTube home page when I went to search for the actual video I was looking for… now on with it…
A half-dozen of us huddled around an iPhone at the diner last night and watched the following video. [...]

On a whim, I migrated my domain’s mail to Google Apps yesterday. Without explaining the virtues of outsourced application hosting, simply put the email sent to this domain is now handled entirely by Google.
So far I’m impressed.
The whole process took less than an hour. After you provide your domain name, Google provides file called googlehostedservice.html [...]

Heading north on Russell Street just before Ravens stadium there’s a billboard that proclaims “Marriage works” while depicting a cheery-faced couple. What are the advertisers trying to sell here in Baltimore? A church? the institution of marriage itself? As far as I can see from the street there isn’t a sponsor listed. Lots a people [...]

Last year I scored a bag of incandescent light bulbs when the ACW household replaced all of their bulbs with compact fluorescent ones. Those bulbs got gifted to another friend of mine, since his house — when purchased — was devoid of light bulbs for some reason.
I went to the bank this afternoon to deposit [...]

Since Google Maps allows us to do custom layers, all the smoke free places on the list so have been plotted on a map. I was going to do this via the Google Maps API, but this was so much easier than dealing with the XML plus it allows collaboration.
The Map (which has a hideous [...]

I made Hawaiian Chili today in the crock pot yesterday. Very very tasty. It was composed of ground pork, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato juice, crushed pineapple, green bell peppers, onion, chili powder, parsley, sugar, and black pepper. The only downside is that my crock pot is a tad small; there was some overflow [...]

It’s been over ten years since I first heard Third Eye Blind on the side stage of HFStival 1997. Yesterday I had the opportunity to do so again at UMD College Park’s Ritchie Coliseum, this time while working on the show providing support to the Technical Director. As usual, I got a kick out of [...]

We installed an ETC Sensor+ Touring Rack for Severna Park High School last weekend. It was the double wide touring model, half populated with dimmer modules. It was (obviously) less expensive than buying a full rack and it leaves adequate room for future expansion. The dimmer racks that were in use were getting rather antiquated [...]
