A bandwidth-intense peek at the last few days.
Though not pictured, the weekend got off to a nice start at a happy hour organized by a coworker. You simply can’t go wrong with a margarita on the rocks, a plate of fried pickles, and reuniting with some folks you haven’t seen in a while (and meeting [...]

Canabalt is Addiction Defined

Canabalt is a dead simple but extremely addicting Flash game. With simple graphics and an upbeat soundtrack, the game consists of jumping. That’s it.
No thanks to Rob, I’ll probably end up getting nothing accomplished tonight. I’m just shy of 5,000m.

Too Much is Happening

I find writing to be relaxing and therapeutic, but lately I just haven’t been able. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately. It doesn’t help that the makeup of one my team (at work) is changing and it’s leaving me feeling stretched a little thin.
Six Flags is fun. Too much, perhaps. It took several [...]

There’s something undeniably cool about a MacGuffin in a case, like in Ronin or Pulp Fiction. It’s not just about the plot device itself, though. My fascination extends to case-mounted hardware too, including all manner of tactical weapons — HK’s MP5-in-a-suitcase being a choice and rarely found example — and communications gear. Needless to say [...]

Don’t Know Tavern

I went to Don’t Know Tavern on Friday night. It’s owned by the same people as No Idea Tavern, apparently both named as if to answer the question “so where are/were you?” I don’t know if I’d call it “in celebration,” but it was for ACW’s final fling happy hour before he quits blogging forever. [...]

Contest #2 - Best Caption

We have a winner of the post card contest! One of the self-proclaimed lurkers from Lothian sent in a nice postcard from Ocean City depicting a few people with their Hobie Cats and windsurfing gear.
Also notable was an “authentically Alaskan” postcard from Alaska. Props to NJR Junky for that.
So the winner will receive a $5 [...]

Contest #1 - Random Postcard

The idea is very simple. Mail me a postcard and you’ll be in the running to win a small prize. Simple.
I do have some other ideas for the future that will require a little more creativity, but I’m a little slow formulating them beyond the chicken-scratch in my notebook.
So it’ll be a random postcard, non-judged. [...]

Let the Contesting Begin

I’ve been inspired by some recent giveaways and have decided to do something a little different and fun this summer.
In the next few days there will be a contest on this blog. Perhaps the first of many. Words, cleverness, trivia, and photography will be involved. There will be plenty of time allowed for entries. There [...]

21, Fun Whether Fact or Fiction

I saw 21 last week at Tysons Corner AMC. If you’ve never been there, this theater is nuts. If you’ve got vouchers to AMC, save ‘em for here. Student rate for a matinĂ©e was $8.50. I think regular adult admission was $12.50. The decor reminds me of a casino; there is oak trim and marble [...]

A Weekend Away

Sometimes you need a weekend away from the world. Away from work. Away from side work. Away from your normal locale. This weekend we headed up to Ocean City to relax. After a good bit of rain and some light hydroplaning on the Garden State Parkway, we arrived unscathed. There’s something about chips, salsa and [...]

Fondue Pots for Christmas Eve

I was in Columbia last night for a potluck dinner. There was Italian bread with two plates of seasoned oils to dip in: Parmesan and a Tuscan spice blend. There were baked meat/sausage roll type things which reminded me of pigs in a blanket, except less flaky. Very yummy. The main course was the two-pot [...]

It’s clean and SFW. It may have taken many many takes to get all of this, but you definitely would not want to play beer pong against this guy.

Then there’s this guy who recovers after two police taps at high speed. I have no idea what it has to do with Bubb Rubb, but he’s [...]

I don’t gamble that often, so I was a bit suprised when I got a letter from the Assistant Vice President of Marketing of the Tropicana last week. Now I’m sure there’s a dozen Assistant VPs of Marketing at every major casino in Atlantic City, but this letter made me laugh.
“I’ve enclosed your latest Tropicana [...]

Google Maps Pop Quiz

I worked at this facility for a brief period of time. Two points if you can figure out and comment on what it is and its purpose. Two extra points if you guess what I was doing there.
Cue Jeopardy theme.

I heard a radio commercial for Maryland’s $25 Million Frenzy today and it made me a bit mad. Not only does Maryland plug the things non-stop on every type of media available, they go and offer an even more expensive ticket. Did I miss something… is $20 the new $1? $20 for a scratch-off?!?
So I [...]
