I was surprised to read about Google’s new approach to China. Very public. On the other hand, the search magnate seems to like grand and shocking departures from norms, even theirs. While I wouldn’t consider censorship and humanitarian issues “antics” per se, it seems like Google is fed up.

I use Mailman to provide mailing list services to friends, family, and non-profit groups in addition to running a few administrative lists. Doing so has recently exposed a problem with Gmail’s mail delivery.

With a few simple changes to a robots.txt file, the daily page impressions on one of my sites have more than quadrupled. The bottom line is this: don’t underestimate the effects of Google’s search results.

For reasons of personal preference and potential profit, this site has opted not to display Google’s image-based ads. Despite the option being made available to web publishers under the AdSense program, I doubt that I would see additional revenue from image-based banner ads.
