Last Flight of Discovery

It’s hard to express why I wanted to see Discovery make her final voyage, but I just had this feeling that I had to. A fascination and curiosity to see her in flight, without turning on a television or loading photos in my web browser.

I’ve wanted to see a night launch for years, experience night [...]

Savannah: City of Trees

Savannah is known for its squares. These twenty-two city-block sized plots of municipal property form the border of the historic district and are filled with gardens, grass, monuments, benches, paths, walkways, and all sorts of pleasantness. But as nice as these squares are, the historic district of Savannah is first and foremost a city of [...]

River Street in Savannah

Walking down Bay Street in Savannah you’ll see all sorts of upscale shops, eateries, and majestic looking buildings, including the Savannah Cotton Exchange. But really, I think the real beauty is what’s behind the facade…

…in between many of the buildings you’ll find stairs that take you down a level into the bowels beneath the storefronts, [...]

Downtown Charleston Pictorial

Charleston is a port town in South Carolina that reminds me a lot of Annapolis. From the historic buildings to the sea wall to monuments to the people, it feels familiar but with a little added southern charm.

The palmettos do remind me of Beverly Hills, however.

Upgrades to YMCA Camp Mason

Located in northern New Jersey, Camp Mason is one of many YMCA camps that caters to summer programs for kids, team-building weekends, and corporate retreats. I hadn’t been up to visit in more than a decade, so a lot has changed.
When the dam broke a few years back, the decision had to be made whether [...]

Everyday Carry

Inspired by two Flickr groups, I decided to document my everyday carry. That is, the items that I carry with me on a daily basis.

Nothing really fancy here.
I’ve got the usual ring of keys to various houses, offices, and vehicles, most of which are infrequently used. There’s a ten-year-old wallet, filled with a modest amount [...]

Outer Banks Pictoral

I really like the Outer Banks. Despite the drive down to North Carolina taking 6 or 7 hours, it’s still better than Ocean City, Maryland. There are no crowds. No hotels. No drunken high school graduates. No tag checks on the beaches. Not a lot of enforcement on the beaches, either. The life guards in [...]

Now that the RNR XXI run is complete, struck and done with, I’m beat. It’s an incredible experience, but exhausting too. All at once. If you’ve never been involved in a live production, I don’t know how to explain it. The queasiness of opening night. The laughter and handshakes on closing night. The quickness with [...]

Opening Weekend at RNR XXI

After weeks of build time and rehearsals, Rock N’ Roll Revival XXI opened this weekend. After four completely sold out shows, I find myself singing along and humming the tunes. The show has come together nicely, just as it always does. So far, we’ve received nothing but positive feedback.

Now that I’m more of an adviser [...]

Sneak Peek of RNR XXI

Exactly one week from today, the doors open for Rock ‘N Roll Revival XXI. Every year there is a theme, sometimes unofficial and sometimes more public. This year it’s public. “Welcome to the Jungle” is this year’s theme, despite the lack of Guns N’ Roses on the program. We’re expecting record attendance. Already five of [...]

Visuals of Second Chance Saloon

Second Chance Saloon is a nice little neighborhood joint, tucked back in the folds of Columbia. They’ve got live music, decent prices, specials, and best of all a kitchen that delivers.
For the most-part, the photographs speak for themselves.

Second Chance Nachos, consisting of “tortilla chips piled high and topped with seasoned beef, cheddar jack cheese, jalapenos, [...]

Weekend of Rediscovery

I’ve been rediscovering things all weekend.
After a recommendation of a New York pal, I was looking at a “nifty fifty” lens for my camera. He said (and I’m paraphrasing slightly) that it changed his world. After taking a few unlit shots with a friends D80 on Friday evening and seeing how bloody crisp and fast [...]

Reading up on EOS

In an attempt to educate myself, I’ve been reading through NK Guy’s Canon EOS Beginners’ FAQ. There’s a lot here.
While I stumbled upon it while looking for something else, there’s something about the writing style that’s comforting and inviting. I get the impression that the author could go over-the-top with technical jargon that would be [...]

A bandwidth-intense peek at the last few days.
Though not pictured, the weekend got off to a nice start at a happy hour organized by a coworker. You simply can’t go wrong with a margarita on the rocks, a plate of fried pickles, and reuniting with some folks you haven’t seen in a while (and meeting [...]

Lately, I’ve been all about going out and doing things. With that in mind — and paying tribute to various anniversaries of sorts — on December 6th we drove down to Shenandoah National Park to climb a mountain. Old Rag, to be specific. Though my associates had been numerous times, it was my first time. [...]
