I’ve been rediscovering things all weekend.
After a recommendation of a New York pal, I was looking at a “nifty fifty” lens for my camera. He said (and I’m paraphrasing slightly) that it changed his world. After taking a few unlit shots with a friends D80 on Friday evening and seeing how bloody crisp and fast [...]

In an attempt to educate myself, I’ve been reading through NK Guy’s Canon EOS Beginners’ FAQ. There’s a lot here.
While I stumbled upon it while looking for something else, there’s something about the writing style that’s comforting and inviting. I get the impression that the author could go over-the-top with technical jargon that would be [...]

A few site updates.
Since I don’t have a phone with Internet access and don’t have regular access during the workday, I don’t find Twitter all that useful. However, in the spirit of being an accessible person I’ve configured FeedBurner to tweet when new things are are published here. For those who follow Twitter moreso than [...]

I received an invitation to start using Google Wave this morning. Ironically, this is mere hours after reading about JJT not wanting an invite. I don’t remember asking for an invite, but I am a frequent user of their other services. I had to dust off my Google account as it doesn’t allow you to [...]

The same night Amanda was photographed for the Baltimore Sun’s Glimpse column at Little Havana, we voted in the City Paper’s Best of Baltimore 2009 Reader Poll. More than a few of our picks just happened to win.

Canabalt is a dead simple but extremely addicting Flash game. With simple graphics and an upbeat soundtrack, the game consists of jumping. That’s it.
No thanks to Rob, I’ll probably end up getting nothing accomplished tonight. I’m just shy of 5,000m.

For folks running on Windows, it can be difficult to tell what is real and what is bogus. The following web page was loaded on Firefox on Mac OS X, pop-up dialog boxes with animated status bars and all.
Though I wasn’t impacted at all, you can see why less saavy computer users can be fooled [...]

If you employ bogon filtering on your firewalls or servers, make sure you check the IPv4 address space list from time to time.
Since February 2008 and as recently as March 2009, IANA has allocated 13 /8 blocks that were previously unallocated. Here’s the complete list of new allocations from 2008 onward.

Some friends recently went to Japan and took their HD Flip video camera. They made a very nice collage in iMovie of stills and video. Now it seems — thanks to my college roommate for sharing — that the camera works just as well in the cockpit of an F/A-18 Hornet doing maneuvers.
Though not specified [...]

Though I’m usually a fan of Super Saver Shipping, I’m in the midst of a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime. After a handful of orders I came to realize something.
Two-day shipping is awesome.
For two reasons, really.
Items arrive in two days.
Items arrive via UPS.
In my experience, UPS does a better job of handling packages [...]

I find it interesting how many little services scour the Internet for blogs and then include them in their directories. Today I found another one: Blogged.com. It was mentioned on Mashable back in February, so it isn’t that new but today was the first time I saw a reference to it. I turned AdBlock off [...]

Why pay $1 for Red Box when you can stream movies for free on Hulu? Sure it isn’t as good a selection at Blockbuster or Red Box and the quality isn’t the same as a DVD, but you can’t beat the price. The best part is that it’s legit. NBC Universal and News Corp. teamed [...]

I received a Flickr Mail from a NowPublic member asking if they could use a photo of mine in an article about National Chocolate Chip Day. The article itself isn’t really an article at all, just a summary of another article. Geek that I am, a link is a link and the photo doesn’t mean [...]

I downloaded Ghosts I this evening and gave it a listen. I also listened to some of the tracks on the site itself (click “Listen”). Completely instrumental, I like the assortment. It doesn’t have the polish of Reznor’s typical studio album that you can only assume was the product of months in the studio mixing [...]
